My name is Tianyi Liu (天一, pronounced TIEN-YEE). I am a biostatistician based in the Philadelphia area, originally from Beijing, China. This site is where I write about travel, statistics, food, career reflections, and the occasional shower thought that refuses to leave quietly.
Travel is my first great passion. It began when I was nine, during a family trip to Egypt—my first overseas adventure. We cruised up the Nile, visited temples and museums, listened to stories of pyramids and pharaohs, and discovered that medicated oil could function almost like bathroom currency. I did not return with an Indiana Jones artifact, but I did come back with a lasting appetite for seeing the world.
Professionally, I work in pharmaceutical biostatistics, using data and statistical reasoning to support the development of new therapies. Outside work, I am interested in applying statistics to other corners of life, especially real estate investment. One long-term dream is to build a data-driven real estate brokerage.
Beyond statistics and travel, I enjoy reading, running, good food, an inadvisable amount of coffee, history and anthropology podcasts, Bayern Munich in the Champions League, and strategy games that reward logical deduction. I also share my home with Wrigley, an extraordinarily adorable tabby cat.
Think of this site as a random walk through the measurable—and occasionally immeasurable—parts of life. I also host a website on GitHub for research-related content. You can check it out by clicking here.
